It looks like Ghostbusters 3 is going to happen!

Dan Aykroyd said “Bill Murray is not returning for ‘Ghostbusters 3”.   Aykroyd also said Yes, we’ve got a brilliant new writer on it and we’ll be passing the torch on to a new generation. We’re working on it to make it just right to satisfy our fans. I’m confident we’ll be in production in the next year.

Ghostbusters History
The 1984 classic film Ghostbusters is a Halloween favorite and has been called one of the funniest movies of all time. Ghostbusters is proof that great movies don’t have to be scary in order to be Halloween classics. The success of the Ghostbusters film spawned a sequel film as well as several cartoon TV series based on the show and featuring Slimer, the most popular ghost entity in the film. The film also gave the world some notable lines that are still quoted today such as ,”He slimed me” and “We came, we saw, we kicked its ass!”. The Independent Film Institute listed Ghostbusters as number 28 of its top 100 comedies of all time. A third film in the series was planned, but got tied up in production hassles. Supposedly the film was never officially shelved and could still be produced but there is no definitive date for production or release set.

One of the reasons why Ghostbusters was such a smash hit was the writing of the story and the dialog. Because the film was written by Dan Akyroyd and Harold Ramis, who also held the parts of two of the four primary ghostbusters, it was witty and intelligent and written for the dry and sarcastic method of comic delivery that the actors knew well. It was really Bill Murray, playing lead parascientist and lead ghostbuster Dr. Peter Venkman, who made the film the classic it is today. The ghostbusters also wore great costumes made up of tan jumpsuits with patches, boots, and ghost catching units straight from science fiction novels. Dressing up in a ghostbuster costume is still fun for many people because the costumes are so iconic. Part science fiction, part paranormal, and all funny the Ghostbusters original film was truly unique when it was released.

Another reason why Ghostbusters is a classic is the characters. Geeks and nerds everywhere can relate to the ghostbusters who finally get recognition for their intelligence and the ghost catching machines they create. The characters get to be the heroes and the underdogs who triumph over adversity, which everyone loves. And who could forget the film’s central demon Gozer the Gozerian and that light refracting bubble costume? The original Gozer costume worn in the film was recently sold at an auction by Hollywood treasure hunters Profiles in History for $8,000 proving that fans of the original film still love the film enough to pay big money to own a piece of it. But without a doubt the most famous character from Ghostbusters is the StayPuft Marshmellow Man, the giant figure of sugar and fluff who wreaks havoc on NYC destroying a church and killing people indiscriminately.
Ghostbusters is a film that is appropriate for older children, which makes it pretty unique in the world of Halloween films. Most Halloween films are made to be terrifying, not funny, and so Ghostbusters will remain the most popular family friendly Halloween film and one of the best films in all of film history.
