There are lots of last minute Halloween costumes that you can make with things you already have or supplies that you can buy at any craft or Halloween store. Sometimes waiting until the last minute can lead to the most creative costumes. When you are putting together a last minute costume be realistic about the amount of time that you have to create the costume and choose a costume that you can easily get done in the amount of time that you have. Here are five ideas for last –minute costumes that are easy to make but won’t look like they were thrown together at the last minute:

Day of the Dead

Sugar Skull or Day of the Dead makeup is perfect for a last minute costume. You can wear all black clothing and let the elaborate makeup be your costume. You can wear a black wig if you want the makeup to look more dramatic. With just a good Halloween makeup palette and some makeup brushes you can create a dramatic and beautiful costume. If you want to add some jewels and body decorations look in the nail polish section of the drugstore or find a beauty supply store. You can use glittering stones and jewels designed for nail art to add some sparkle to your Day of the Dead makeup.


Zombies are more popular than ever, thanks to shows like The Walking Dead. To create a quick zombie costume take some old clothes and cut holes in them, or rip the seams. Get them muddy and dirty. You can use old clothes that you don’t wear anymore or even just a tee shirt and jeans. You can add powder to your hair to make it look fuller and dirty, and some vegetable oil in your hair will make it stringy and clumpy. A monster makeup palette from a Halloween store or even the drugstore is all you need to create a great zombie look if you use some professional makeup artist techniques. You can use liquid latex and toilet paper to create wounds and some fake blood applied to your mouth and clothes will pull the whole costume together.

Fifty Shades of Gray

A popular last minute costume that you can create for next to nothing is a 50 Shades of Gray costume. Make a run to the local home improvement store and grab some of the sample paint chip cards that show different paint colors. Usually there are five color swatches on each card. Grab 10 different gray swatch cards and cut them so that each color is one square. Then pincatl them or glue them to your clothing and you’re done. If you want a fast, easy and cheap costume this is the one for you.

Pumpkin Pie

If you are really pressed for time but you still want to have a fun costume all you need is some construction paper and an orange tee shirt. With the construction paper create a large Pi symbol and cut it out. Decorate it with glitter or metallic marker. Tape or glue it onto your orange tee shirt and you can be Pumpkin Pie. There are lot of ways that you can use craft supplies to create fun last minute costumes like this one. If you don’t have the right color shirt make a quick trip to the thrift store or borrow one from a friend or family member.

Crazy Cat Lady

This is another funny last minute costume that you can make easily. You will need an old fashioned housecoat, the tackier the better. You can find some great ones at local thrift stores for just a couple dollars. Wear the housecoat with some slippers. Put curlers in your hair or if you want to make the costume funnier use cat food cans to roll curls in your hair. Use a hairnet to keep the curlers or cans in place. Print out a cat template and create some different colored cats out of cardboard and construction paper. Tape or glue them to the housecoat. If you have a stuffed cat put a harness and leash on it and carry it around with you.
