x-menThe X-Men, a team of mutant superheros, go as far back as the early 1960’s. Thanks to Stan Lee, one of the most well known names in the comic book world, and Jack Kirby, the characters came into existence in their own comic simply called “The X-Men”. Since the release of this original series, the characters have inspired a number of cartoons, comic books, video games, and movies. The series has always been incredibly popular among young and older fans, alike, as well as both genders.

Last year, Marvel Entertainment and 20th Century Fox, along with several other production companies, came together to create the newest installment in the X-Men movie series, X-Men: Days of Future Past. This film, which premiered in New York City on May 10th, is set to be released to both 2D and 3D theaters on May 23rd. While there is no way of telling exactly how big of a hit this film will be, it is acting as a sequel to both X-Men: The Last Stand (2006) and X-Men: First Class (2011), both of which did very well. Last Stand brought in over $450 million worldwide and was the seventh highest grossing film of that year. First Class, then, brought in over $350 million worldwide.

Days of Future Past is based on the comic of the same name from the year 1981. The movie takes place in alternating time periods (1970’s and 2020’s). The current year is 2023, in a dystopian future ruled by sentient robots known as the Sentinels. These robots now work to exterminate those born as mutants, humans born with superhuman abilities, and oppress the human race to prevent further mutant births.

Luckily for the X-Men, though, several of them have managed to evade the robots. They develop a plan to send Wolverine’s consciousness back in time, thanks to the help of the powers of Kitty Pryde, in order to prevent Mystique from murdering the lead designer of the Sentinels. This assassination created a cataclysmic chain of events that led into the dark world that the X-Men know today. Without giving away too many details, the film follows these characters into the past as the fight against the Sentinels and past forces trying to prevent the dark future in which they have ended up.

Not only does the movie have an intense storyline and surely amazing visuals, but the makers of them film have managed to gather some of the biggest names in xmenHollywood. Beloved celebrities that will be making an appearance, and also contributing to the huge popularity of the film, include Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Sir Patrick Stewart (Professor X), Ian McKellen (Magneto), Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Halle Berry (Storm), Ellen Page (Shadowcat), Kelsey Grammer (Beast), and more. The powerhouse cast has served the series well in the past and is sure to do the same here.

For one thing, stars like Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Sir Patrick Stewart, and Kelsey Grammer have been favorites of cinema for years. While Jennifer Lawrence did appear in the previous X-Men film, she only recently broke through to superstardom with the success of the hit series, Hunger Games, that came out in 2012. Her appearance is sure to bring new fans to the series that fell in love with Katniss Everdeen, those who will now be just as crazy about the X-Men.

Now, as far as Halloween goes, the topic on everyone’s mind is who will be making an appearance this October. The X-Men surely have a huge following, but how will they stack up against costume competitors this year? More than likely, especially with a new film coming out, the X-Men will do very well in the Halloween department. Wolverine, Magneto, Mystique, Storm, and more have always been favorite costumes for young fans of the series and this year will be no different. In consideration of how much fame the movies have already garnered, coupled with the awesome cast of the new film, X-
