Go Retro This Halloween with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle Costumes
If you grew up during the 80s then you probably grew up with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The Turtles were one of the hottest franchises of the 80s. They starred in films, a TV show, and video games and also had lunchboxes, action figures, clothing and other merchandise emblazoned with their images. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, or TMNT for short, are still popular today with kids who are just embracing the Turtle’s legacy and with adults who love going back and revisiting their childhood heroes.
The TMNT began as a comic in the early 80’s. Graphic novels were just beginning to be popular back then and weren’t nearly as mainstream as they are today. Four different volumes of graphic novels featuring the TMNT were released before anyone outside of the comic world really began to take notice. The buzz from the TMNT was so great that it caught the attention of TV producers who created an animated series based on graphic novels. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV show ran from 1987-1996. In1997 an action focused live action version of the show was introduced because producers thought that a more action oriented show would appeal to viewers. A female character, Venus di Milo, was introduced in the live action series and she was the first female TMNT. Unfortunately the TMNT didn’t make the jump to live action success and the show was cancelled after just one season. The TMNT starred in three feature films during the 80s that were box office successes.
In 2003 producers at the Fox network, famous for animated powerhouse the Simpsons as well as cult hits like Family Guy, King of the Hill, and American Dad, brought back a revamped animated version of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The success of the edgier, updated animated series led to a new live action film that was released in 2007.
